My West Highland terrier acts very shy all the time. How to help ovecome shyness?
It was about 1 weeks I brought a 6 month old West Highland Terrier dog from an animal shelter. He was badly mistreated by his owner above, currently serving a prison sentence. He was beaten and seriously injured. He still has scars and burn marks on his back. I think it continues to hide. He hides from me and others in the family all the time. It seems a sort of fear in him who is not really more in the reality. How to help overcome shyness or fear?
Time, patience and lots of love is the answer, you win confidence poor thing when he see human beings as evil and you need to know that we're not all like that. No loud noises, etc., sweet soft tones when you speak. If you want to try him down to his level, do not turn on him, perhaps sitting on the ground dealing with the hand and gently remind you. Nothing works at night but I'm sure eventually he will learn to trust and love you, do not take it personally This poor dog had a terrible life and well done to you want to make it better for him.
